Boğaziçi University Has Rised Up Almost 300 Places In The QS Sustainability 2024 Ranking
Boğaziçi University was ranked 335th in the QS World Universities Sustainability Rankings 2024, an improvement of nearly 300 places compared to the previous year. Boğaziçi University was ranked 59th in Asia and third in Turkey. The University of Toronto from Canada took first place in the ranking, which analyzes the current performance of universities in social and environmental sustainability.
QS, a London-based rating agency for universities, assessed 1,400 universities from around the world based on three sustainability criteria: Environmental Impact, Social Impact and Governance. According to the report, Boğaziçi University rose from 601st place last year to 335th in the world. Among the 24 universities in Turkey that made it onto the list, Boğaziçi University rose seven places to third place.
THE HIGHEST SCORE IN "SOCIAL IMPACT"
Of the criteria assessed in the ranking, Boğaziçi University achieved the highest score for "Social Impact" with 72.9 points. This was followed by "Governance" with 65 points and "Environmental Impact" with 57.5 points. The "Social Impact" criterion assessed the institution's contributions to society in the area of sustainability, the impact of the education it provides and the collaborations it has established in this area. The "Environmental Impact" criterion assessed the institution's environmental education, research and policy and the "Governance" criterion assessed the institution's performance in terms of financial transparency, open decision-making and student representation.

Boğaziçi University Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Naci İnci said that they are pleased with the rising performance in the ranking. Emphasizing that Boğaziçi University is a pioneer in Turkey with its students and academics committed to social and environmental sustainability, he said:
"In addition to the ongoing sustainability efforts at our university, we are continuing our activities with UN SDSN (United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network) Turkey. I, as President of UN SDSN Turkey, and our Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Gürkan Kumbaroğlu, as Director of UN SDSN Turkey, are participating in Turkey's efforts to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. As an administration, we and our academics working in this field work to contribute to our university, our country, and our world. We believe that our universities have a leading role to play in creating a more livable environment and a more prosperous society. Moving up 300 places in this year's QS ranking, which assesses the sustainability performance of universities, is particularly important in demonstrating the impact and visibility of our breakthrough in this area."
