As a partner institution in SENSES (Science Education through Novel teaching Strategies for Environmental Sustainability), Boğaziçi University focuses on developing innovative science education practices centered on environmental sustainability. The project is led by Prof. Dr. Sevil Akaygün and includes Prof. Dr. Emine Adadan as a researcher from the Department of Mathematics and Science Education. Supported by the European Union Erasmus+ Programme, this international initiative brings together universities and educational institutions from Türkiye, Germany, the Netherlands, Greece, and Cyprus. The SENSES Project develops innovative online teaching modules, train-the-trainer programs, and educator networks to enhance the knowledge and skills of teacher educators and pre-service teachers in environmental sustainability education. Through an interdisciplinary approach, the project’s modules, materials, and activities aim to promote global citizenship and environmental awareness through science education.

The 2nd Transnational Meeting of the SENSES Project was held on October 22, 2025, at Boğaziçi University’s South Campus with the participation of project partners. On October 23–24, 2025, a seminar titled “Train-the-Trainer: Environmental Sustainability Education” was organized.

During the seminar, innovative teaching modules were introduced on socio-scientific issues, inquiry-based learning, ocean literacy, systems thinking, and problem-solving. Participants shared feedback and engaged in discussions to evaluate and further develop these modules.

Through this collaboration, Boğaziçi University aims to prepare the next generation of science educators equipped with environmental awareness and global citizenship values, empowering them to effectively integrate environmental sustainability into science education for a more sustainable future.
