President Erdoğan Attends the Opening Ceremony of Boğaziçi University's Men's and Women's Dormitories

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan attended the Opening Ceremony of Boğaziçi University’s Men’s and Women’s Dormitories. At the ceremony held at Albert Long Hall on the South Campus, President Erdoğan announced three major investments: the reconstruction of the Boğaziçi University Library, which had been demolished due to earthquake safety concerns and will be rebuilt with an investment of 2 billion Turkish lira; a modern laboratory building worth 3 billion lira; and a new conference hall.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan attended the Opening Ceremony of the Men’s and Women’s Dormitories held at Albert Long Hall on Boğaziçi University’s South Campus. Emphasizing the importance of the newly opened dormitories for Boğaziçi University, President Erdoğan stated: “I hope that our foundation-supported men’s dormitory with a capacity of 210 students and our women’s dormitory with a capacity of 706 students—where students coming from different cities can stay with peace of mind and where families can feel reassured—will be beneficial to our University and our students.”

President Erdoğan also expressed his appreciation for the investments carried out in a short time by the Boğaziçi University Development Foundation (BUVAKIF), stating: “Completing two dormitories that will accommodate a total of 916 students in such a short period is not an easy task. I sincerely congratulate our foundation and the University administration.”

New Library and Laboratory Announced for Boğaziçi

In his speech, President Erdoğan also shared three major investment announcements for Boğaziçi University:

“We are rebuilding the Boğaziçi University Library, which was demolished last year due to earthquake safety concerns, in the near future. I hope that our new library, valued at 2 billion liras, will be beneficial to our university. Next year, we will provide Boğaziçi University with a fully equipped and modern laboratory building through a 3 billion lira investment.” President Erdoğan also announced that construction of a larger conference hall will begin shortly and is expected to be completed within one year.

At the end of his speech, President Erdoğan noted that Boğaziçi University’s recruitment of young academics educated at leading institutions around the world represents a significant example of reverse brain drain. He then highlighted the University’s role in shaping Türkiye’s future and stated:

“I believe that Boğaziçi University, one of Türkiye’s most distinguished higher education institutions, will make meaningful contributions to raising a knowledgeable, conscientious, and self-confident generation. We expect our University to maintain its current momentum and to continue moving forward with determination along the path it believes is right.”

Academic Strengthening: New Dormitories and 150 New Academics

In his opening speech at the ceremony, Boğaziçi University Rector Prof. Dr. Naci İnci emphasized that the steps taken in the area of student accommodation carry strategic importance for the University. He stated that the newly constructed dormitories represent a concrete expression of the commitment to providing young people with a safe and high-quality future.

Addressing academic transformation in his speech, Prof. Dr. İnci noted that 150 new faculty members have joined the University over the past five years. He stated, “We have prioritized merit and scientific productivity in our faculty recruitment. We have expanded our academic ranks with distinguished scholars recruited from prestigious global institutions. This process has also become a strong example of reverse brain drain.
